Tom Tom Sat Nav Followed to Near Disaster

A car delivery driver from South Yorkshire narrowly avoided serious injury when he slavishly followed his Tom Tom sat nav instructions, leading him to the edge of a 100ft drop.

Robert Jones from Doncaster was driving home, following an unfamiliar route, after a night out in the Pennines. He foolishly followed the instructions provided by his sat nav device even when they directed him down a lane that was clearly unsuitable for motor vehicles. It was only when is silver BMW 5 series car hit a fence on the edge of a cliff that he realized there was a problem.

Mr Jones was arrested and charged with driving without due care and attention. Mr Jones denied the charge saying that he was simply following the instructions provided by his Tom Tom, but he was convicted and fined £370 plus £500 in cost as well as receiving 6 points on his license. After the court case he said that his sat nav had never let him down before and he was continuing to use the device.

The popularity and reliance on sat nav systems has been blamed for causing many accidents in the UK. In early 2009 a young man was banned from driving for 20 months after being guided onto a railway line in Goole by his sat nav.

A driver in Sussex had a similar experience, driving onto a railway line, but she avoided prosecution. She had tried to make her Mazda contract hire company responsible as she said that they had set up her sat nav system.

Drivers have been reminded that they are responsible for their sat nav systems, even if they were supplied and fitted by their car lease or car hire company. If sat nav instructions direct you somewhere that is clearly unsuitable it is up to you to ignore the instructions.

Many drivers have admitted performing sudden manoeuvres as a result of instructions from their sat navs and as many as 300,000 accidents are estimated to have been caused by such actions.

The Two Must Have Sewing Machine Feet – Walking Foot - Roller Foot

The present day advanced sewing machines come with several advanced features. Two such important sewing machine types are the walking foot sewing machines and the roller foot sewing machines.

The Roller Foot Sewing Machine:

This type of sewing machine works fantastic on leather, vinyl and also on suede. It is not easy to sew these materials. The layers between these materials are prone to shifting, making stitching impossible.

A normal sewing machine with regular foot causes a lot of friction and the layers get stuck under the sewing machine. The materials that are getting stitches are very soft and so there are a lot of problems in stitching them.

These problems can be avoided by using a roller foot sewing machine. The machine rolls over the material that is getting stitched therefore the stitching is smoother and there is less amount of friction than what it would have been otherwise. When the fabrics that are being stitched are heavy like canvass and denims, there is a lot of ease in the process. The seams that are being formed on the clothes are bulky and uneven.

The Walking Foot Sewing Machine:

This machine is perfect for fabrics such as plaids and stripes. It is good for patterns as well. The stitching that is done on the layers of the top and those of the bottom are done evenly.

Take A Look At Some Of The Special Features Of The Roller Foot And The Walking Foot Sewing Machines:

• Great portability: these swing machines are easily portable. You can keep them inside your cabinets. You can carry them easily from place to place without any trouble as such.

• Large sewing area: both these machines have a large sewing area which facilitates sewing.

• Motor: the motor is designed in such a way as to give you a reliable stitching and compact work.

• Even feed foot: when you are sewing really tough fabrics which tend to slip, this is of great help. In case you are stitching georgette fabrics, a velvet bodice or for that matter a leather skirt, things can get really messy. But since these even feed foot sewing machine attachments the problems can easily be overcome and the stitching can be done easily and pretty fast.

• Extra amount of space is provided if you have to stitch a thick fabric: there is a lever present which you have to lift if you need extra room for stitching fat fabrics. You can adjust this level up to 12 mm.

• Automatic thread timer: there is an automatic thread timer attached to the sewing machines. The threads are trimmed just by pressing the button at the foot of the machine. This fastens the entire process of sewing. There is no wastage of thread. The amount that you need is cut by the machine.

Stitching is not such a painful exercise as long as you are using these sewing machines.
